The latest and, according to Egypt, final round of talks on the disputed Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) concluded on 19 December without reaching an agreement promised at the July outset of talks by the presidents of Egypt and Ethiopia.
This week’s talks in Addis Ababa formed the last of four rounds of negotiations over the last five months. But initial hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough in the decade-long dispute between Ethiopia and downstream Egypt and Sudan (MEES, 24 November) have evaporated. (CONTINUED - 951 WORDS)
