Iraqi conglomerate Raban Al-Safina Group has ambitious plans to expand its oil and gas sector operations through Halfaya Gas Company (HGC), a subsidiary of its Raban Al-Safina for Energy Projects (Rasep) division. Rasep is already a big player in Iraq’s power generation sector, operating plants with 1.5GW installed capacity through independent power purchase contracts (IPPs), and is confident in its ability to replicate this success in the oil and gas sector.
Rasep’s entry into Iraqi oil and gas came in May 2022 when it signed a contract with the Oil Ministry’s Oil Pipeline Company for the Buzurgan Pipeline Project. This involves development of a 70mn cfd gas compression unit at the Buzurgan oil field, as well as a 220mn cfd gas treatment unit at the Halfaya field and a 70km sour gas pipeline connecting the two facilities.
