Swedish independent Maha Energy has unveiled a new partner at its Block 70 oil asset in Oman after kicking off a drilling campaign in a bid to prove commerciality of the block’s heavy oil resources.
The 639km2 Block 70 is located in central Oman, with its main asset the Mafraq heavy oil field. Discovered by state-led PDO in 1988, Mafraq’s extremely heavy 13° API crude oil was of little interest to the firm, and eventually Block 70 was carved out and offered to investors in a bid round launched in November 2018 (MEES, 16 November 2018).
