Saudi Arabia sees petrochemicals expansion as a key route to future-proofing its vast oil and gas reserves. Jubail, located on the Gulf coast, is the kingdom’s primary downstream hub, with the Red Sea hub of Yanbu also an important cluster. Expansion at Jubail is being driven by a combination of state-led and private sector firms.
One of the key private sector firms expanding its Jubail operations is Tadawul-listed Advanced Petrochemicals. Advanced currently operates a PDH/PP facility capable of producing 450,000 t/y of polypropylene and plans to nearly triple its gross domestic capacity through a major $1.7bn development alongside Korea’s SK Gas.
