US major Chevron is looking to contract a drillship for further East Med focused activity for 2024, according to a Reuters report. Chevron currently has the Stena Forth under contract to drill the A3 appraisal well at Cyprus’ Aphrodite field. This is set to spud in the coming weeks after the vessel finishes drilling a development well for Chevron at Israel’s Leviathan (MEES, 7 April). However the Stena Forth is subsequently under contract to Aphrodite partner Shell for drilling offshore Egypt in the second half of this year (MEES, 24 March).
Chevron’s East Med activity next year will likely involve appraisal work at its 3.5tcf Nargis discovery offshore Egypt while more development work will likely take place at 23tcf Leviathan and the 13tcf Tamar fields offshore Israel as it looks to expand output at both fields by the end of 2025 (MEES, 7 April). Further plans to expand Leviathan capacity to 2.1bn cfd have not yet been sanctioned by Chevron and its partners at the giant field, although FLNG appears to be the favored option (MEES, 24 February).
