Norwegian renewables developer Scatec on 14 May signed an MoU with Alexandria-based refiner ANRPC to develop a $450mn, 40,000 t/y ‘green methanol’ plant at Damietta near the northern end of the Suez Canal.
Egypt’s oil ministry says the key aim is “to produce green fuel for ships.” The project incorporating 120MW of wind capacity and 40MW of solar is “the first of its kind in the Middle East,” it adds.
