Just days before bidding was set to close, Lebanon has extended the deadline for eight offshore blocks on offer from 30 June to 2 October, the sixth time the deadline has been pushed back since bidding was launched in April 2019 (MEES, 16 December 2022).
Beirut may be hoping that September’s key Qana wildcat from French major TotalEnergies (MEES, 5 May) will encourage firms to bid for the extensive acreage on offer (see map) – though given that even initial results are unlikely by the bidding deadline, a further delay cannot be ruled out.
