A consortium led by UAE state renewables firm Masdar has signed a land agreement with Egypt for the construction of a world-beating 10GW wind farm “with a project value of over $10bn,” the firm announced on 6 June. The initial MoU signed in November last year, ahead of the Cop 27 climate summit in Egypt, teams Masdar, its Infinity Power JV with Egyptian renewables firm Infinity and Egypt’s Hassan Allam Utilities (MEES, 11 November 2022).
The announcement provides little detail on where the land for the wind farm might be located or when operations could commence but it is more than likely the location is somewhere on Egypt’s Gulf of Suez coast, the location of its currently operating 1.59GW of installed wind capacity.
