The third and final crude distillation unit (CDU) at Kuwait’s 615,000 b/d Al Zour refinery has come online in line with Kuwait’s target of having the Middle East’s largest refinery at full capacity by the end of September (MEES, 26 May).
As such the end is in sight for Kuwait’s $30bn refinery upgrade program, which in addition to the $16bn greenfield refinery, included the Clean Fuels Project (CFP) upgrades to its legacy Mina Abdulla and Mina al-Ahmadi refineries. The $15.6bn CFP was commissioned in late 2021, taking the combined capacity of the two refineries to 801,000 b/d (MEES, 1 October 2021).
