Japan’s Prime Minister embarked on a tour of the Middle East this week, visiting two countries on which Japan is dependent for energy supplies and one with which it regrets having reduced energy ties. In a whirlwind trip Prime Minister Fumio Kishida met with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar, stating that the trio will be pivotal for Japan’s energy security for decades to come.
Much of the public statements focused on the potential future supply of emerging low-carbon fuels such as hydrogen, but a more pressing consideration is the security of supply of the traditional oil and gas supplies on which Japan is dependent. (CONTINUED - 985 WORDS)
