Algerian state power firm Sonelgaz has opened the bids for a tender to build 2GW of solar capacity which closed on 29 May. The tender is for 15 solar farms ranging in size from 80 to 220MW.
Some 28 firms participated, submitting a total of 90 bids, of which 77 were deemed to have met the required standards. Of these 50 came from foreign firms, 18 from Algerian firms and nine from consortia containing foreign partners, Sonelgaz says. Foreign bidders are heavily skewed towards Chinese state-owned firms, with three Turkish construction firms also bidding. But well-known Western names are conspicuous by their absence.
