Egyptian-Emirati fertilizers company Fertiglobe says that it expects “to start the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) process” on low-carbon hydrogen/ammonia projects in the UAE and Egypt “during H2 2023.”
Whilst ostensibly a move forward, this suggests that the previous target of FID by end-2023 for the 100MW ‘Egypt Green’ project at Ain Sukhna on the Gulf of Suez will be missed (MEES, 17 February). Egypt Green is slated to be Fertiglobe’s first “full scale” green hydrogen project with the 100MW electrolyzer powered by designated solar and wind capacity to produce “up to” 90,000 t/y of green ammonia from up to 15,000 t/year of green hydrogen.
