Korea’s Samsung Engineering announced on 27 September that it has been awarded a Front End Engineering Design (FEED) contract worth $19.4mn for a major petrochemicals project in Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea industrial hub of Yanbu. The award is from Saudi listed firm Alujain, for a 600,000 t/y propane dehydrogenation (PDH) facility and a 500,000 t/y polypropylene (PP) plant.
Alujain says that the project will cost $2bn and the facility is expected to start operations in the first half of 2026. It secured approval for propane feedstock allocation from the Ministry of Energy in November 2022. Alujain notes that it will enter into a strategic partnership with “a leading global partner” in the industry to enable the transfer of required technology. The firm currently operates a 400,000 t/y PP plant at Yanbu. (CONTINUED - 130 WORDS)
