Dana Gas says that a suspected 25 January drone attack on the 500mn cfd Khor Mor gas field in Iraqi Kurdistan has forced a suspension of production. Dana says that all measures “are being taken to resume operations as soon as possible,” adding that it expects resumption “soon.” A fire at a liquids storage tank has been extinguished. Khor Mor has been subject to multiple such attacks from Iran-backed militias in recent years (MEES, 24 June 2022), but this is the first to cause such damage. Previous attacks resulted in the suspension of work on a 250mn cfd expansion project at Khor Mor, which after restarting last year is due to be completed in Q2 (MEES, 19 May 2023).

Khor Mor supplies most of Kurdistan’s gas feedstock for power generation, and the Ministry of Electricity says that 2.8GW was lost. The US ambassador to Iraq slammed the attack for exposing “millions to power outages in midwinter.” (CONTINUED - 152 WORDS)
