Eni is drilling its first wildcat offshore Oman in four years on the giant (90,000 km2) Block 52 (Eni 55%, QatarEnergy 30%, OQEP 15%) with Northern Offshore’s Energy Emerger jackup rig in recent days moving into position 36km offshore in 31meters water depth.
The shallow water well is Eni’s first off Oman since a deepwater well on the same block which flopped in early 2020 (MEES, 21 February 2020). Eni has revived exploration efforts in Oman with a planned wildcat on onshore Block 77 with partner BP (50%) last year (MEES, 17 March 2023). But neither firm has announced any results.
