Libya’s NOC last week announced that it plans to drill 245 wells for 2024 as the country’s rig count hit a 14-year high of 18 for January, according to Baker Hughes data.
A key focus of recent efforts has been the Sirte Basin’s Abu Attifel field of Eni-led Mellitah oil and gas. This produced at 95,000 b/d prior to Libya’s 2011 revolution. Effective capacity has been perhaps half this in recent years but leading US-based services firm SLB has been working with Eni and NOC on a campaign to re-enter long-producing wells with its latest stimulation technology.
