Saudi Arabia’s Advanced Petrochemical has awarded South Korea’s SGC a $191mn contract to develop a 70,000 t/y Isopropanol (IPA) plant. The IPA plant will be part of an under-development $1.7bn Jubail expansion project being developed by Advanced Petrochemical (85%) and Korea’s SK Gas (15%). EPC awards worth $1.68bn were previously made in 2021 for the complex’s core 843,000 t/y propane dehydrogenation (PDH plant) and two 400,000 t/y polypropylene (PP) plants which are planned to come online by year-end (MEES, 23 April 2021). Satellite imagery shows that construction work is progressing.
The IPA plant is expected to come online by 4Q 2026 and its output can be used for industrial solvents, medical and cosmetics applications, electronics amongst other downstream applications. Advanced says that it will be the Middle East’s first such plant. (CONTINUED - 130 WORDS)
