Latest end-2023 reserves figures for two of the East Mediterranean’s big three gas fields, Egypt’s Zohr and Israel’s Tamar, show Eni-operated Zohr slipping to number three, behind not only Israel’s largest field, Leviathan, but Tamar too. Both of the Israeli fields are operated by US major Chevron.
Eni’s fast-track development model at Zohr – FID was taken in March 2016 just seven months after discovery and with only two wells drilled (MEES, 25 March 2016) and first production followed less than two years later – long made it difficult to compare the field’s reserves figures with those of other regional discoveries.
