Kuwait’s Emir has appointed on 15 April Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al Ahmad Al Sabah as Prime Minister, after the incumbent Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah declined to be reappointed. The Emir also postponed the first session of parliament from 17 April to 14 May.
The new parliament is largely controlled by ‘opposition’ candidates following early elections on 4 April which were called in another bid to break the long-running impasse between the legislative and executive branches (MEES, 12 April). (CONTINUED - 213 WORDS)
