*China LNG imports remain on track for a record year with April seeing another bumper month. April’s imports of 6.22mn tons are up almost 1.5mn tons on a year earlier with total 34M 2023 volumes of 26.07mn tons up 23% year-on-year (see chart 1).

*Australia, with 2.16mn tons for April and 8.44mn tons for 4M 2024 remains well ahead of number two supplier Qatar (1.51mn tons April, 6.74mn tons 4M 2024), though Qatar is on pace for a record 2024 (see chart 2) whilst its slew of recent China sales deals holds out the prospect of overtaking Australia over the coming years.
