EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on 2 May announced that the EU will provide Lebanon with €1bn ($1.1bn) in aid, mainly to bolster the country’s “overall security and stability.”
Ms von der Leyen says the aid will begin flowing this year and is aimed at helping the massive numbers of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, increasing numbers of whom have been attempting hazardous onward journeys to EU states such as Cyprus and Italy. (CONTINUED - 124 WORDS)
