Saudi Arabia’s $8.4bn Neom Green Hydrogen (NGHC), the largest such project globally to have moved to the construction stage, appeared to secure a marketing breakthrough on 7 June. Project partner and sole offtaker Air Products of the US and TotalEnergies jointly announced that the French major had agreed to purchase 70,000 t/y of green hydrogen from Air Products over 15 years from 2030.

The announcement did not mention the prospective source of the green hydrogen: “Under the agreement, Air Products will deliver at TotalEnergies’ Northern European refineries’ doorstep, green hydrogen from Air Products’ global supply network.” Nor, crucially, did it mention price.
