In a bid to maintain baseload thermal power capacity Oman has restarted the mothballed 412 MW Barka I power plant according to a 23 June company filing by Barka Water and Power Company. The plant’s original contract with state offtaker Nama expired in 2021, but in April this year it received a nine-year extension. While no new thermal plants are planned, the country’s fleet of gas-fired power plants are set to provide the majority of capacity throughout this decade (MEES, 14 June).
