Tunisia in late 2023 published its first national green hydrogen strategy. This envisaged output of 8.3mn t/y by 2050 with some 6.3mn t/y to be exported to Europe.
Whilst this is highly ambitious, recent MoUs with two international energy giants – TotalEnergies of France and Acwa Power of Saudi Arabia – raise the prospect of achieving initial output and exports by early next decade, the same timeframe as that given by Italian, German and Austrian grid operators for their ‘SoutH2 corridor’ plans to pipe green hydrogen from North Africa to Europe.
