Despite record power demand Egypt’s PM Moustafa Madbouly, speaking on 17 July, said that thanks to a surge in LNG imports the country’s two hours per/day of rolling blackouts will end this Sunday (21 July), until at least mid-September.
It’s now up to new petroleum minister Karim Badawi (MEES, 5 July) to help him keep his word. Already, having in late June awarded a tender for 21 LNG cargoes for Q3 delivery (MEES, 28 June), Egypt has taken delivery of the first four cargoes totaling 290,000 tons, with two more to arrive over the coming week according to data intelligence firm Kpler.
