As Addis Ababa moves ahead with the fifth filling of its disputed Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), South Sudan has ratified the Nile Basin Cooperative Framework Agreement (CFA), known as the ‘Entebbe Agreement’, dusting off long-delayed plans to establish a controversial water management body called the Nile River Basin Commission.
The two developments pose serious concerns for downstream Egypt and Sudan, who perceive the GERD and the Entebbe Agreement as threats to their water and food security. (CONTINUED - 1140 WORDS)
