Oman’s largest hydrocarbon producer, state-led Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) is looking to tap into challenging heavy oil reserves at Marmul Natih in the south of the country. It published a request for information on 25 July for the development of 630mn barrels of the “stranded oil reserves.”
To develop the reserves, some form of secondary or tertiary oil recovery methods will be required. The oil is “notably heavy” with an API between 18-22°, and seven previous wells have produced non-commercial quantities and an extremely high water cut rate of 99%. (CONTINUED - 141 WORDS)
