US firm KBR on 22 July announced that Shell Oman had selected its blue ammonia technology for the Duqm blue hydrogen project. Last week Shell awarded pre-FEED contracts for the hydrogen facility to UK engineering firm Wood (MEES, 19 July).
As part of the announcement KBR referenced “the 3,000t/d ammonia plant,” which equates to 1.1mn tons annually. Shell has not previously published the intended scale of the project. 1.1mn t/y of blue ammonia would require around 200,000 t/y of hydrogen. (CONTINUED - 80 WORDS)
