Yemen’s Houthis say that following last week’s Gaza ceasefire (MEES, 17 January) they have halted attacks on Red Sea shipping with the exception of “Israeli” vessels. On 22 January they released the crew of the Galaxy Leader car carrier, held since 19 November 2023 (MEES, 24 November 2023).
Major shipping firms for now remain cautious. Shipping giants Maersk and Hapag Lloyd have said they are not returning yet. And they may well remain nervous given the Houthis say they are ready to resume attacks. (CONTINUED - 223 WORDS)
