One of the region’s least developed countries, this could be about to change after a series of major offshore gas discoveries.

State of Play

Mauritania is set to become a major gas producer from 2022 after BP in late 2018 decided to approve development of the 15tcf Tortue field. Further discoveries and exploration by Exxon, Shell and Total as well as BP hold out the prospect of more to come.
